as i remember it, in terminator 2, sara conner tells of the world ending in 1997. I think it was like, August 7th? during her apocalypse monologue, there are great slo mo shots of playgrounds and stuff just before everyone gets wiped out.
this was my VERY firsts pull-over spot from out of the car on my vacation, and i really wasn't paying attention to what this park was called, but there was a plaque there describing that it was a lewis and clark rest stop.
I got out, it was inordinately hot, and being a mile off the main highway, this random rest stop park on a river was inordinately quiet as well. there was a random assortment of playground installations, traced oddly far apart. as i walked over the ground to check out these playground toys, i noticed that my footsteps cracked through the ground and left imprints in the soft and crusty ground. It looked like during the rainy season, a layer of moss and mud 1-2 inches thick grew over the whole area, and that it had since dried out and grass had grown up through. It felt like a very fragile and apocalyptic environment. judging by how long the ground would take to get like that, i estimated that i was the first person to walk through this park in like 4 months... but maybe longer?
epic, dude
